Dietary supplements do not substitute a balanced diet but supplement it

The new Probiotics 40 Billion dietary supplement is a powerful probiotic blend with 13 live friendly probiotic strains (lactobacillus strains, Bifidobacterium lactis and Streptococcus thermophillus strains) that contribute to normal digestive system functioning and to maintaining the balance of the digestive microflora.

Each capsule contains 40 billion stems/capsule to develop and balance the normal intestinal flora (microflora), thus enhancing the body's defence against pathogenic organisms of the digestive system. The probiotic strains create colonies of "good" microorganisms which in turn they remove the pathogenic microorganisms responsible for a number of gastrointestinal disorders.

The biological activity of the probiotic strains Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria are largely due to their ability to attach to the enterocytes and thereby inhibit the binding of intestinal pathogens through the "competitive foreclosure" process. Adhesion of probiotics to receptors on the surface of enterocytes also activates cell-signalling processes for the production of cytokines.

Safety from the consumption of probiotic strains Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium have been investigated and evaluated. Based on the clinical findings, the probiotic strains Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are now considered safe probiotic strains for human consumption.

The product also contains the probiotic strain, Streptococcus thermophilus, an important probiotic widely used in cheese and yoghurt production, while also supporting the digestive system in mild gastrointestinal irritation as well as diarrhoea after taking antibiotics.

Factors that affect the normal bowel function and the development of pathogenic bacteria are the frequent use of antibiotics and contraceptives, alcohol, smoking and poor nutrition.
